Dr Leonie Rowan introduces first year Bachelor of Education students to the powerful sociological and social justice issues that impinge on the teaching profession in Australian schools. She demonstrates to her students the deeply embedded inequities which lead to poor educational outcomes, and inspires them with the knowledge that teachers have the power to make a difference. Through her own relationship-centred pedagogy, she not only develops her own students to become confident, successful learners, but also provides them with a robust set of strategies that they can use to achieve successful learning outcomes in their own subsequent teaching practice. At undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate level, she provides her students with a positive, respectful learning environment that supports them to develop confidence in their approach to research and publication in the Education discipline.
