The Griffith English Language Enhancement Strategy (GELES) was created to develop the English language skills of international and domestic students from non-English speaking backgrounds to maximise their chances of academic success. The unique, whole-of-university approach supports students to further develop their English language proficiency and enhance social and cultural understanding throughout the course of their studies, from prior to commencing their degree through to graduation.
The comprehensive framework is comprised of five components which offer students: an introduction to the academic and social skills needed for success at university; discipline-specific English language courses; concurrent academic language development; opportunities for meaningful interaction between domestic and international students; and preparation and support for their transition to the workforce as graduates with strong English language competency.
